Storytime-A Random Man Explained My Life to Me
Worry about yourself, sir

Earlier today, I was at a small family gathering. A distant relative that I’ve barely spoken five words to my entire life started up a seemingly random conversation.
No problem, right? But I knew better. See, it was a familiar line of questioning that I could get paid to write the script for by now. It always ends with unsolicited advice about why I need to get married to a man and reproduce.
The interrogation started off innocently enough to the untrained ear. He asked me what I was doing with my life. I told him I’m a freelance writer and I plan to make Florida my base and travel for a bit. I let him know I may move if I find somewhere I like better.
I could see how perplexed he was becoming.
“What about settling down?” he asked with great concern.
“I’m not interested in settling.” I responded.
“You’ll change your mind when you get older,” he replied.
Knowing that I look younger than my years, I humored him. “I’m 40. I’m pretty sure I know what I want.”
